Sungwoohoe, the fellowship of retired pastors from the Korean Adventist Church, has made a generous donation of 10 million won to the Theology Department at Sahmyook University.

While individual contributions from retired pastors to their alma mater have been made in the past, this marks the first official donation from Sungwoohoe as an organization.

Im Byunghoon, the president of Sungwoohoe and an alumnus from the Theology class of ’66, shared the motivation behind this donation. “Until now, Sungwoohoe has mainly been about fostering fellowship among members, but we felt it was time to give back to the school that nurtured and educated us. This proposal was brought up at our recent meeting and was unanimously approved,” he explained.

President Im noted, “We gathered the funds by making small sacrifices and saving bit by bit. Though the amount may not be vast, we hope it serves as a meaningful start, encouraging more of our 300 members to join in this giving effort.” He also mentioned that the 17th of every month is a designated day for all Sungwoohoe members to pray for their alma mater.

Sahmyook University President Jae Haejong expressed heartfelt thanks, saying, “We are deeply grateful for your support, especially knowing that you are managing on pensions. We will ensure that your noble intentions are conveyed to and inspire future generations.”

The scholarship fund handover ceremony was further enriched by the participation of pastors Han Jaesu (class of ’72), Jung Soonki (class of ’73), Jung Youngju (class of ’82), and Moon Jangseop (Graduate School of Theology, class of ’93). They joined the “Inspiring Donation Relay Campaign” celebrating the university’s 120th anniversary, contributing 1.2 million won each as the 3rd to 6th donors, adding to the warmth and generosity of the occasion.
