Sahmyook University has successfully secured 900 million won in funding for the third year of its Semiconductor Major Track Project.

This project, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, is designed to create a sustainable pipeline of skilled professionals to advance the semiconductor industry. The goal is to foster innovative talent and consistently supply top-tier personnel to the industry.

Since being selected for the project in 2022, Sahmyook University has launched the ‘Semiconductor Materials, Components, and Equipment Engineer Training Program,’ focusing on developing specialized experts in the semiconductor sector.

In its second year, the university received high marks for several key achievements, including utilizing advanced cleanroom fab equipment for practical training, successfully executing long-term internships, and completing various industry-academia projects.

With the 900 million won secured for this year, Sahmyook University plans to develop a new course on ‘Semiconductor Equipment and Analysis,’ hire expert faculty for semiconductor fab lines, establish robust employment support programs, engage in industry-academia projects with partner companies, and build infrastructure to support integrated undergraduate and graduate programs.

Jung Hoon, head of the university’s Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, said, “Through the Semiconductor Major Track Project, we will continue to strengthen our collaboration with the industry to enhance the practical relevance of our curriculum and research. Our aim is to ensure students gain valuable hands-on skills and knowledge.”

Professor Yang Min-gyu, from the Department of Artificial Intelligence Convergence and the project’s director, added, “We are committed to offering educational and industry-academia programs that equip students with the practical skills required in the field. Our goal is to provide extensive field experience, preparing students to become leaders in the domestic semiconductor industry.”
