On February 18, Sahmyook University held its Winter Graduation Ceremony for the 2021 Academic Year at the main auditorium on campus. For COVID-19 prevention, the ceremony was joined by only a minimal number of attendees, including the graduates and department representatives, and was live-streamed on YouTube.
The university offered a week-long graduation gown rental service for the graduates to take commemorative photos, put up a large sign on the outer wall of the auditorium, and set up a photo wall to create a celebratory atmosphere. The graduates, since they weren’t able to attend the graduation ceremony in person because of the pandemic, visited the campus separately with their family members, relatives, friends, seniors, and juniors to celebrate, take pictures together, and visit their advising professors.
At the ceremony, a total of 1,121 graduates received their degrees—10 doctorate and 54 master’s degrees in the General Graduate School; 1 doctorate and 16 master’s degrees in the Graduate School of Theology; 1 master’s degree in the Graduate School of Business; 1 master’s degree in the Graduate School of Clinical Nursing; and 1,027 bachelor’s degrees. Eleven foreign students from China, Mongolia, Vietnam, India, and the Philippines, and fifteen students with disabilities also wore the honorable caps and gowns.
President Kim Il-mok said in his congratulatory speech, “Wherever you go, whatever you do, I pray you will be ‘servants of truth and love’ according to what you have learned, experienced, and gained from the university.” He added, “Sahmyook University will continue to strive to be one of the greatest sources of pride in your lives. May the Lord’s endless grace and mercy be with you all in each path you take.”
