Sin Seong-rae, dean of the College of Nursing at Sahmyook University, has been appointed the 11th president of the Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing Education. Her two-year term begins May 1.

The appointment followed a selection process that included a review by the board of directors and a recommendation by the presidential selection committee, based on an open call for applications.

Sin graduated from Sahmyook University’s nursing program and holds a doctorate from Ewha Womans University. Over her 39-year career as a professor, she has held key positions at Sahmyook University, including dean of student affairs, director of external relations, dean of the graduate school of clinical nursing, and dean of the College of Nursing.

Sin has participated in the accreditation board’s certification evaluations four times — in 2006, 2013, 2018, and 2023 — as the head of the internal evaluation committee and an internal evaluator. In the early days of the accreditation board, she contributed to its development as a member of the Accreditation Agency Guidance and Supervision Subcommittee. Her extensive experience in nursing education accreditation makes her well-suited to lead the board effectively and impartially.

She also brings international experience, having served as the third vice president of the International Council of Nurses from 2017 to 2021, where she worked on international exchange and cooperation and built a global network. In 2019, she successfully organized the 20th ICN Asia Workforce Forum, co-hosted by the ICN and the Korean Nurses Association and attended by representatives from nursing associations across 11 Asian countries.

Sin has also been actively involved in various professional nursing organizations, such as the Korean Society of Nursing Science, the Korean Nurses Association, and the Korean Society of Adult Nursing, where she has held elected positions. She has contributed to the advancement of nursing standards and has been involved in editing numerous academic journals and organizing international conferences.

“With my 39 years of experience in nursing education and diverse professional activities both domestically and internationally, I aim to elevate the quality and standards of Korean nursing education to a global level,” Sin said. “I plan to systematize the evaluation and support processes, modernize and internationalize the curriculum, and emphasize core values such as character education and ethical awareness.”

Established in 2004, the Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing Education aims to cultivate competent nurses and advance nursing education in response to societal needs. Its main activities include nursing education accreditation, designation of four-year nursing programs, designation and management of advanced practice nurse education institutions, evaluation of nursing assistant training programs, and support for practical training in nursing colleges.
